Tars Land Five Players on Daktronics All-Region Team
WINTER
PARK, Fla. (November 17, 2009)- The Rollins men's soccer team had
four players selected to the Daktronics All-South Region First Team and one
on the second team, it was announced Tuesday morning. Senior midfielder
J.D. Gruenewald was tabbed Player of the Year from the South Region to
go along with SSC Player of the Year award earlier this year. Also joining
Gruenewald on the first team was senior
Jacob Deloach and juniors
Jack Clifford and
Thomas Biddinger.
Guenewald, leave Rollins as one of the most decorated players in program
history. Gruenewald leaves Rollins tied for first in games played (76) and
career assists (42). He also ranks eighth in points (94) and fourteenth in
goals (26). From the midfield position Gruenewald tallied a team high 32
points (10 G 12 A) and provided the spark for the Tars offense. With the
help of Gruenewald's scoring the Tars posted the ninth best offense in
Division II with 2.79 goals per game.
Deloach, a senior defender for the Tars has been an important offensive
catalyst all year long. He currently sits third in the nation in assists per
game with 0.69. From the backline Deloach moved the offense forward
providing excellent service into the box and also was masterful on set
pieces for the Tars. Deloach also has tallied three of his four goals off
penalty kicks this season. Deloach leaves Rollins tied for seventh in career
assists (26).
Clifford, an excellent defender and master of set pieces in the air
tallied four goals in the regular season after missing the two previous
seasons with a knee injury. Clifford also has commanded the back line and
helped the Rollins goalkeepers to combine for 10 shutouts in 18 games, which
places Rollins 15th in Division II shutout percentage.
Biddinger, an excellent on the ball defender helped the Tars post a 0.89
goals against average. With his size and control in the air Biddinger was a
threat on set pieces and controlled the ball from the back line. Clifford
and Deloach anchored one of Division II's best back line's.
Senior
Dennis Chin garnered second team honors for his stellar play at the
forward position. Chin tallied seven goals for the third straight season
moving him to tied for 19th in goals (22) and is ranked 25th in points (56).
