Flagler places four on All-Conference Team; Lynch named Coach of the Year and Toby Frosh of the Year

EVANS, Ga. − The Flagler College men’s soccer team picked up some individual awards as the 2009 All-Peach Belt Conference Men’s Soccer Team was announced at the tournament banquet this afternoon.

Head Coach John Lynch was selected as the Coach of the Year after guiding the Saints to a 7-1 record in their first year in the conference. Flagler is the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament which resumes this afternoon with semifinal play. Joseph Toby (Jacksonville, Fla./Wolfson HS) earned Freshman of the Year honors. So far this season, he played in and started in 18 games and has scored three goals with five assists for 11 points. Toby has a pair of game winning goals to his credit.

Despite winning the conference regular season crown, Flagler (13-5-1 overall) had only one first team selection. Johan Bergfeld (Akers Styckebruk, Sweden/Rekarnegymnasiet) was selected as a first-team at-large selection after scoring two goals and adding an assist for five points. He scored the game winning goal in Flagler’s 3-1 win over Francis Marion University to wrap up the regular season title.

The Saints have a balanced scoring attack which ranked third in the conference in both goals scored (37) and goals per match (1.95).

Pol Berenguer (Barcelona, Spain/St. Augustine HS) earned second-team all-conference honors as a midfielder. He has scored six goals with one assist for 13 points. Berenguer leads the Saints with three game winning goals. Kevin Partel (St. Augustine, Fla./St. Joseph Academy) was named to the second-team as a defender. He was named Defender of the Week by the conference on Sept. 22. Partel has scored one goal in 19 matches played thus far. Conor Killeen (Dublin, Ireland/Colaiste Ide) was tabbed second-team at-large. The junior midfielder has scored three goals with a team-best six assists.
