The FIU men's soccer showed it can play with the nation's elite as they pushed No.8 Indiana to double overtime, however the Hoosiers managed to break through the FIU defense in the second extra period, beating the Golden Panthers 2-1, Sunday in Akron.

After a scoreless first half, the Hoosiers took the lead in the 68th minute on Will Bruin's second goal of the year. The lead looked like it would hold as FIU's offense seemed to be shut down by the Hoosier defense.

However, with just 5:09 left in regulation, Diego Tamburus found Steven Jair Cabas, who found the back of the net for his third goal of the season and the match's equalizer.

After neither team managed a shot on goal in the first overtime, Indiana attacked the FIU defense, firing three shots on goal, the last of which got by FIU keeper Shane Lopez for a 2-1 Hoosier victory.

The loss drops FIU's record under the .500 mark at 3-4. The Hoosiers improve to 3-2-1.

FIU finished in fourth place at the Akron University Tournament, and defender Anthony Hobbs along with goalkeeper Shane Lopez were named to the all-tournament team.

The Golden Panthers will have nine days to prepare for their next match as they open conference play in September 20 in Tulsa, Okla. against the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa.
