Major youth soccer tourney coming to Indian River County

— US Club Soccer announced Vero Beach as a host Monday for one of the organization’s 12 National Cup IX regional youth soccer tournaments for 2010.

The southeast regional tournament will take place May 28-30 at Hobart Soccer Complex and Pointe West — both in Indian River County.

Local event organizers from the Treasure Coast Sports Commission, the Indian River Soccer Association and the Indian River County Chamber of Commerce expect attendance from more than 100 boys and girls teams from the U-11 through U-18/19 age groups. Winners from the U-13 through U-17 brackets in each region advance to the National Cup IX finals in late July. more

 

East Lake takes Disney title

LAKE BUENA VISTA – Goals from Danielle Gottwik and Riley Narum gave the East Lake Arsenal a 2-1 victory against the Richmond Kickers in the girls under-14 Showcase division of the Disney Junior Soccer Showcase on Sunday afternoon at the Wide World of Sports complex.

“I think that we played better and better each game,” Arsenal coach Diego Viera said. “We’re very proud of this, it’s very important to us.” more


 

Schulz U14 Boys Take Home Title

TAMPA – Strengthened by two goals from midfielder Michael Henderson, Schulz U14 boys took home the Super Y-League North American Championship by virtue of a 4-0 victory over MPS Bulldogs Tuesday morning at Ed Radice Sports Complex. The result leaves Schulz with a 15-1-0 overall record in the 2009 Super Y-League, with their only loss coming to West Pines FC on August 12. MPS finished the 2009 season with a 14-2-1 record.

“It was a very hard game at first, with both teams wanting to win,” said Henderson.

The Academy club came out with force from the first whistle and thoroughly dominated the match, putting a number of efforts towards goal in the first 10 minutes. more

 

Schulz Claim 5th Overall SYL Title

TAMPA, FLORIDA – Schulz Academy calimed their fifth overall SYL North American Championship with a 3-1 win over Alpharetta United in the U17 boys division today at Ed Radice Soccer Complex in Tampa, Florida. Schulz got a goal and an assist effort from Donovan Henry and Christian Henao in the victory. Daniel Espinel netted the lone goal for Alpharetta.
The match started quickly as Schulz needed only four minutes to get on the scoreboard. Following a throw-in to Henry’s feet, the striker turned inside and slid a pass into the area. Henao collected the pass and shot quickly to the near post, past Alpharetta United goalkeeper, Carl Cochran for a 1-0 lead. more

 

RSL boys cruise into Super-Y semifinals

RSL Florida’s boys under-15 team cruised into the semifinals of the United Soccer League’s Super-Y North American Finals with a 4-0 victory against the MPS Crusaders at the Ed Radice Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon. more

 

Youth- HCU bounces back, but cannot advance

LAND O’ LAKES – Nick Patterson scored in the second minute to give Hillsborough County United’s boys under-16 team a 1-0 victory against Super Nova FC from Harrisburg, Pa., but Coastal WFC’s victory over Parsippany in the other group game means that HCU cannot advance to Monday’s semifinals of the United Soccer League's Super-Y North American Finals. more
