Monarch High School soccer player in
hospital after stroke
16-year-old stricken during practice
Steve
Lorenc had a hard time processing what was happening.
Lorenc, the veteran soccer coach at Monarch High, has seen his share of
traditional sports injuries, but at Monday's practice, the symptoms
affecting midfielder Juan David Becerra were anything but typical. Becerra
was struggling to speak and move.
An ambulance was called, Becerra was taken to the hospital and four days
later, a family and school are struggling to understand a puzzling
diagnosis.
Becerra, a 16-year old senior, had had a stroke.
"He's always been healthy so we don't know the cause or why it happened,"
said Angelica Becerra, Juan David's older sister. "We're trying to have
faith and be positive for him."
